what happens if..


what happens if you install fedora with cd 1 and cd w/out cd 3 and 4? will it work??

what happens depends upon the install you did. if you tried a full install, you'd've had to cancel at some point to not get cds 3 and 4 installed --depending on FC install system, it might not have finished making the system bootable, or just not installed some of the packages.

take an example using debain -- i think you can download 7 cds -- there's no reason for all that nonsense. Distros contain software packages on their additional CDs. Installing all the packages is not necessary, but adds additional functionality to your system

back to FC... if it boots, and you want to install additional packages, try using yum to get them

well its just that i only have 2 cd-rw's.. ive used so many cd-r's that messed up for all other distros.. and these two 650mb cd-rw's are all i got left lol... i know i can use slackware cd 1 and 2 on these rw's cuz they fit before... i dont know any other distro i can fit on these discs.

that just popped up... might encourage you not to try a partial install... it's not exactly a 'user friendly' way to do things...

When at the lilo prompt type "linux asksource" or something like that it is listed in one of the messages you get when you press F1 or F2, maybe F3. Any way that will give you the option to select the source for the install. I just did this with an FTP install, slow as hell, but it worked. You can install EVERYTHING with only cd 1.
