Urgent help needed on Installing Fedora 5 on HP Pavilion Media Center Desktop
 

Hello All,

I need a urgent help regarding installation of Fedora 5 on Hp Pavilion Media Center Desktop.

When i read that RHL9 will not install on Hp Pavilion Desktops as they have SATA drives i went and bought Red Hat Fedora 5 and Enterprise Linux 4. But when i boot from the DVD and after displaying starting X-desktop the graphics doesn't gets displayed properly. I've tried all the options shown by pressing F2, but i'm not able to succeed.
During installation in text mode it fails as it is displaying insufficient memory. Following is the memory allocation:
1) 2Gb for Boot
2) 4gb for /
3) 1.5gb to /sawp
4) 2gb for /home.

Guys let me know the solution for the above problem.

Please please help me urgently as i'm facing this problem from past 2 days.

I would bet the insufficient memory error is ram not disk space. Those partitions are large enough for most distros.

The fact that the gui installer panel isn't working, is probably related to the video card you have. What is the video card? Is there anywhere during installation you get to specify the video card and monitor you have?

It has 768MB RAM. I don't think so that should be the problem. Also the video card is ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series. When starting it displays that it has detected the card and also the Hp vs17x monitor which is also correct. But it is not able to display the gui properly.

Give me the solution as soon as possible dude.

I have to agree on the 768Meg of ram. O.K. if it is running out of 'memory' the next thing to look for during install is temp disk space. I have never installed from a DVD, I would think at this point the files are compressed, are being decompressed to temp space, then copied to the appropriate directory. If you have a live CD of any kind, boot up the system and see if you can find the directory where the files are copied. You may have to do some partition resizing. Another solution is to try and do a minimum install. Don't install anything but the system. You can always install applications later.

Can you tell me how to solve problem of displaying the GUI? It is not displaying the correct gui. Nothing is visible.

During install, look for an option like VGA, 640x480. Most installers have it, it is not pretty, but should get you through the install. During the install, near the end, most installers allow you to configure the video card and display. Look for your hardware in there. I have different hardware, so I don't know if yours is directly supported or not. If not, you may have to look for information on how to set up /etc/X11/xorg.conf. This is the file that sets up you video, keyboard, and mouse. Let us know what happebns after a successful install. We can sort out video problems then.
