upgraded from redhat 9 to fc2...wont boot
Ok i updated redhat 9 to fedora core 2 using apt-get. had a bunch of problems but now all packages are installed. I have kernel 2.4 and kernel 2.6 installed. kernel2.4 still wroks and can boot with it but login is really slow and im getting other weird prlblems. when i try and boot to kernel 2.6 i get this warning:
mount: missing device failed in exec at defaults failed in exec at ext2 pivot out: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 kernel panic: no init found Any clues what is the problem? thanks, Paul |
hi there
this error pivot out: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 i got when i did not had ext2 FS support compiled in my kernel; u need that support into ur kernel even if u r using ext3 since ext2 is required initially whn the system starts regards |
all my filesystems are ext2 already. does kernel 2.6.8 have ext2 support in it?
Thanks |
hi there
this needs to be checked by u whther u have compile the kernel with that support it surely does have an option for that and since u have upgraded usng apt-get u must be having that support do check out the partition that have been specified as root partition in ur grub.conf/lilo/.conf regards |
