Update Core 2 to Core 3 with yum

Hi!
I've just been able to fix an annoying problem with the update from Core 2.

I got the error message "udev conflicts kernel< 0:2.6" after a while when I ran "yum update" and... it seems like other ppl are having the same problem but now I have been able to find a solution and here it is.

Uninstall all 2.4 kernels if present, then, the conflict is no more!

It was kind of trivial when I finally used my brains and decoded the "<" sign. Hahaha!

I found some instructions for updating Redhat or Fedora to any Fedora Core version using yum, by searching for "Upgrading Red Hat Linux/Fedora Core with yum" in Google. Unfortunately I couldn't post the link here because I need 5 posts in this forum to be allowed to post links. :-(

I hope this post will be helpful to someone out there. :-)

Thanks for the tip.

For what it is worth, even though you cannot post a link until you have over 5 comments, if memory servers you should still be able to simply enter the text of the link into the body of the message, then if someone is interested they would simply have to cut and paste the refrence from the message into their browser address bar.

How to remove old kernels:

Run
'rpm -qa | grep kernel'
to see which kernels you have installed.

Then, remove kernels starting with "kernel-2.4" using this command:
'rpm -e kernel-version'

Don't remove "kernel-utils-2.4" if you do not have to. I'm running core 3 with a 2.6 kernel and the kernel-util-2.4 is still installed and everything is working just fine.
Also, make sure you do not remove all your kernels! You should keep at least one 2.6 kernel.
