Unsatisfied Partition Request :-/

Hi,

I'm having a bit of a problem installing FC3 again.

I already had it installed nicely with XP as dual boot, but I discovered earlier that I have made the XP partition too small, so I formated and went on to install both again.

This time I made the following via the XP installation.

I deleted all partitions, then created a 25000 MB NTFS partition on hda (a 45GB western digital 5400rpm) and also a 40000 MB and a 25000 MB partition on hdb ( a 120 GB Samsung 7200 rpm).

Then I installed XP onto hda1 and after that, while I was in XP I quick formated the 40000 MB partition using NTFS as filesystem and quick formated the 25000 MB partition using FAT32.

Afterwards I installed some programs and rebooted in order to install FC3.
I did the media check, selected the language, the keyboard, and selected Custom Installation. Then I chose automatic partitioning.

Now comes the problem.

When I choose "Delete all Linux partitions" and select hda and hdb for installation I get the following

Code:

Unsatisfied partition request
New Part Request -- mountpoint: None uniqueID: 9
type: physical volume(LVM) format:1 badblocks: None
device: None drive:['hdb'] primary: None
size: 0 grow: 1 maxsize: None
start: None end None migrate: None origfstype: None

Sometimes uniqueID is 22 as well.

If I only choose hda, I get to the following screen (taken from the manual partitioning)
Code:

Device          MountPoint      Type        Format  Size      Start      End
HDD
/dev/hda
  /dev/hda1                  ntfs                25000          1    3187
  Free                      FreeSpace            17932          3188  5473
/dev/hdb
  /dev/hdb1                      ntfs            39998          1      5099
  /dev/hdb2                      Extended        74489        5100    14595
    /dev/hdb5                    vfat            25000        5100      8286
    Free                      FreeSpace          49489        8287    14595
Free                      FreeSpace              8            14596    14596

MountPoint and Format was empty.
I don't know what to do ?
I created that FAT32 for sharing stuff with XP

If I try to add that 49489MB big FreeSpace to /home or anything else, it stays free and the 8MB FreeSpace gets added instead

I'm so lost, someone find me please :(

Edit: Posted it at the http://www.fedoraforum.org/ forum as well

perhaps I could suggest:
create your 'shared' FAT32 partition on hda as hda5 (ie. in an extended partition)

and install linux on hdb (use your automatic partition tool ... probably easier)

This will give XP less of an excuse to touch your second drive (or get confused about partitions it doesn't know how to talk to).

Also gives your installer an easier task to work out what you really want.

Of course there are other (arguably better) ways of configuring your partition/drive mix,
but the method above is simple, and should keep it that way.

If you discover you overuse hda, swap the drives and reinstall :)

Ok, so here is what I did.
I deleted the Extended and FAT32 on hdb with PartitionMagic, thus only having the NTFS and unallocated space.
Then I created an Extended again, and a FAT32 again.
This time there weren't some 8mb left for good (which I also couldn't add to other partitions using PartitionMagic).
After that, the installation went as smooth as before leaving me happy :)
