switching from winXP to Fedora

Hi everyone, i am a new one here and i am asking for some help. i hope someday soon i will be able to give some help too.

but for now, here is my question :

i switched from winXP home to fedora. i downloaded it yesterday and installed it this morning. i thought fedora's installer would have done something to format my hard drive but i guess it didn't do anything. so now, the problem is that i can't even boot on fedora (there is an OS boot error), and i can't boot on the original winXP CD now... woops...

i first did the custom installation, then nothing work. afterward i did an automatic installation (in case my costum install is wrong) and it still doesn't work.

what can i do to get fedora started now ?

luckly, i have a knoopix CD and i can handle a few things out. but i wish i will not permanently need it.

ps : my winXP has been originaly formated in NTFS

thanks for any support

Woops!!!! what did you do?

First let me know what partition you selected for installing Fedora.

Did it detect "DOS" menu while configuring grub loader?

in knoppix execute fdisk -l to see a list of the partitions and find appropriate results...

let me know....

For the partitions with fedora, i took the default one. i didn't changed anything as i didn't feel confortable enough to change them.

i am running knoppix from a CD, it's not on my hard drive. i executed the command, fdisk -l but the message i have is "can't open /dev/hda" (probably because it's on the CD).

you are talking about grub loader, if my memory is good, it's the thing that allow you to boot on either linux or another OS. i deactivated this loader when i installed fedora because i want to load my computer straight on fedora and be 100% without windows. i will try to install it again and activate the loader.

i come back here when it's done.
