Run Your Own LAMP Server/Fedora Core 4 installation.

Hello,

Hope this thread is posted in the correct category (if not please move accordingly-thank you).

I'm trying to run through the installation procedure from Run Your Own Web Server Using Linux & Apache (Sitepoint ISBN: 0-9752402-2-2-6) and am running into some difficulties. Can anyone help please?.

I've installed Partition Magic 8.01 and as far as i'm aware it's installed correctly as an option to boot into Windows XP and Linux is shown a few seconds after powering-up.

My hard disk drive has been partitioned for Windows XP installation and for Linux Fedora Core 4 installation (approximately 50% each) a swap-file has been added as well as 50Mb worth of FAT32 which was required for PQBootMagic to be installed (wouldn't install onto NTFS).

Anyway, i've tried to install Linux Fedora Core 4 onto a Mini-ITX PC and have unfortunately failed in the first instance. I've booted from cd (is this the correct procedure or should I boot from hard disk and select the partition with no Operating System on from PQBootMagic?. There's no option to install an Operating System at this stage so I guess that the media has to boot from cd)?. The media has been tested for errors and the following steps have been followed:-

(1). Language Selection - English.
(2). Keyboard Configuration - United Kingdom.
(3). Installation Type - Server.
(4). Disk Partitioning Setup

-This is where i'd gotten confused - "Automatically partition" was initially chosen followed by "Keep all partitions and use existing free space" from the Automatic Partitioning page however the following error message appeared:-
Could not allocate requested partitions:
Partitioning failed: Could not allocate partitions as primary partitions.
Remove all Linux partitions on this system was subsequently chosen
-Is this the correct selection?.

(5). Disk Setup
- LVM Volume Groups > VolGroup00 > LogVol00 Mount Point: / Type: ext3 Format: checked Size: 54528Mb
- LVM Volume Groups > VolGroup00 > LogVol01 Mount Point: Type: swap Format: checked Size: 192Mb

- Hard Drives > /dev/hda > /dev/hda2 Mount Point: /boot Type: ext3 Format: checked Size: 102Mb
- Hard Drives > /dev/hda > /dev/hda3 Mount Point: VolGroup00 Type: LVM PV Format: checked Size: 54761Mb

Does this sound alright or am I going about the Linux Fedora Core 4 installation the wrong way and am likely to destroy the Windows XP installation already installed along with the partitions already on hard disk and/or Partition Magic 8.01 installation?.

Sorry to be rather terse, but could you try and see if a text-based install works?
