Red face RedHat Linux 9 to Fedora core 3

Hi,
I am using RedHat Linux 9 on my P4 machine. I have Win98 and Win2000 along
with RHL9. The boot loader is GRUB and Linux is my first OS in the GRUB,
I am planning to go for Fedora core 2 or 3. Please suggest me the best option
to upgrade RHL 9 to Fedora.
1. Delete RHL partition and install Fedora.......will this affect my
Windows OSs?
2. Is there any upgrade option from RHL9 to Fedora 2 ro 3?
3. Any other suggestions?

Regards,
An.

The 1. step is the easiest, and for suer it works. It will not do anything to your windows partitions if you don't want it to. Be careful at partitioning or you might just format the existing partitions and not risk anything

How do I do that? Please post the steps if possible....

Will the new install, reads the already created partition table?
How do I save my windows partition?

it reads the partition table thats already there, so all you have to do is select your current RHL9 partitions for use with Fedora. It will also detect windows and install an option to boot into windows in the grub bootloader.

Here's the STEP BY STEP method:

1.) CREATE BACKUP!!!! In case something goes wrong!!! BACKUP BOTH WINDOWS AND LINUX DATA, that is valuable to you.
2.) DOWNLOAD FEDORA CORE 3 CD ISOs
3.) BURN THEM ON CDs, and be careful to use record from ISO and not to just drag and drop the iso on the cd as that makes it useless
4.) INSERT FEDORA CORE 3 CD 1 into CD-rom and reboot the computer
5.) FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON SCREEN and try to use the graphical installer Anaconda

6.) BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU GET TO PARTITIONING (I recommend DISK DRUID for manual partitioning)
6.a) Try to identify the partition on which RH9 used to reside and mark it as / (root partition)
6.b) In case you have more linux partitions, mark those as well (like /home, /boot and such)
6.c) DON'T FORGET TO MARK THE SWAP PARTITION
7.) SELECT THE PACKAGES YOU WISH TO INSTALL and off you go

GRUB will take care of making the boot loader and let you go to windows or linux as you wish.

This is a quick step by step. Keep in mind that in Anaconda (the graphical RedHat installer, you have, on your left side of the screen, instructions and tips on what and how to do, when you reach a certain step of installation. Follow those instructions)

Good luck!
