problem installing fedora core 1

Hi.
I downloaded the Fedora *.isos and try to get it running on my laptop (Compaq b1011). The MD5checksum is correct.
After booting from disc one and starting the installation the GUI setup crashes. There are silly stripes (green and yellow) and the GUI menu looks very strange...

I think this is caused by the display because anaconda says "unknown monitor" but I am not sure (Linux newbie...)

Passing following parameters (including combinations of them) wasn't successful: nofb, skipdcc, nousb, lowres, resolution=1024x768

Is there any posibility to force the installer to accept the display? Or ist there any other solution?

Thanks, Fraxxis

Welcome to LQ.

Try preforming a text based install.

This won't use the gui to install but it will be available after the install and if it still doesn;t start you should be able to install a driver that is compatible with your display.

Thanks david_ross.
After some fighting Fedora ist installing right now. Just before the installation process starts, the installer tried to copy an image to hard disk.
Error: "Error transferring install image. You are probably Out of Disk Space"

Starting the installation with the parameters "dma=nodma" and "allowcddma" was successful. Hope Fedora will work fine in some minutes / hours / days

Well Fedora is working now.

But there are (were) some problems:
- Fedora dont like the Nvidia fx go. I had to boot the rescue mode an to change the driver to vesa (Fedoras nv driver produces the descriped stripes).
- A new driver (minion.de) dont want to be installed
- I think I will have to update the kernel first (*eek*)
