Hi,
Newly installed Fedora 7 on hardware where Fedora Core 3 ran without problems.
Sound configuration finds correct hardware Intel 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC '97 Audio controller
with module snd-intel 8x0 but sound test is negative and sound card is not correctly presented in the sound mixer .

Thanks for the reply,
I have not yet found a solution for the problem.
Although I have noticed that the former kernel version I used with this distribution ( 2.6.22.1-33 , latest version installed is 2.6.22.1-41)did not produce this problem.
So I expect that some kernel modules did not compile the right way against the new kernel.
Perhaps I have to look further into this. Anyone who can help with this ?

Thank you for your interest in this problem.
Adding more confusing to it is the fact that it is an intermittent problem: sometimes there is sound, on reboot there is no sound. I think it has to do with the TV tuner card installed on the system, which has a conexant chip ( as you can see in the enclosed listings).
I have the impression that there is kind of a "race" between the connexant and the intel chip to be recognized and probed correctly by the software.

As you can see the output from dmesg.. differs while the output from lspci rests the same.

I did not try alsaconfig as root from a shell because it is not on my system although I installed all the alsa related packages available for my system.
I'll try it again logging in as root.
