New uses blues

Hi,

I am trying to install Fedora on my old 333mhz Gateway. I have learned how to download the image, burning it correctly to a CD-R . . . haven't quite figured out how to checksum without loading Linux and I can't do that because when I try to load Fedora it seems to start installing and a long list of things are loaded . . . the last thing on the list that loads says something about skins or something of that nature and then the screen goes blank. I hope this doesn't sound too foolish. I am slow but I am trying to learn.

I hope someone can lead me in the right direction.

Thank you, Tim

Post the exact error you are getting before the screen goes blank. Also have you tried installing in text mode?

re: checksums

Dominick Reichl's VisualHash is a fine little product that's easy to use for beginners if you have access to a Windows machine.

You might also opt for the "media test" check offered at the beginning of your graphical install.

Both of these steps will ensure your install disks are okay and not likely the source of your problems.

How do you install in text mode. Remember I am very new to this. I tried several times to catch the messages that were scrolling on the screen as the program starts to load but can't . . . I figured out a use for a webcam! the last messages read:
running install . . .
running /skin/loader
at that point the screen instantly goes blank. Before those last two messages is one full screen of message. Those last two are at the bottom of the second screen.

to start install in text mode, type text at the boot: prompt.
