New F-22 install. Sertting up for Productivity?

I have Fedora 22 in a vm. 8.8 gigs

I have 188 gnome packages installed from the live dvd. I ran dnf update. It looks as attached. Productivity is painful, and slow - everything done through 'Activities' or a console. Settings are simply "How to shine," and you can't adjust anything meaningfulEverything to make tasks easier is undone. It's nearly as painful as windows 8.0 (and I'm a linux user). XFCE positively flies by comparison, with 4 virtual consoles, menus, taskbars, desktop shortcuts.

Is that it? Do I have to install the other half from somewhere? Is there something I'm missing?

i have to ask because it dose look like you are trying to update a live dvd .

Are you ?

this is gnome3 you know
nothing actually "makes sense" on gnome3
( windows metro in disguise )

the system settings are in two places
a settings icon under the power button icon ( top right)
- why here ??? WTF - your guess is as good as mine

and someplace in the royal mess of the tile based menu ( bottom of the tool bar on the left)
but you might have to turn on some advanced settings first to see them -- ( from memory so ?)

i loved Gnome2 -- HATE Gnome3

Thank you fir the reply,

Yes, I updated the live dvd. It offered "install to disk, and I did. Then I ran dnf upodate(IMO a brave or desperate move in any fedora version)

But I've been reading. There's an xfce and kde spin. If it's just gnome 3, I'll remove it. What are rpms and VMs for if not to have fun?

Productivity setup, from a GNOME 3 F-22/23 daily user

GNOME 3 needs extensions to be useful to most of us, here's the set I use
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/602/window-list/
https://extensions.gnome.org/extensi...ications-menu/
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/618/clicksaver/

then dnf install gnome-tweak-tool and use it to add in minimize/maximize buttons, move some bars to your liking, etc.

Voila, GNOME 3 is usable!

That's genius Demosa. Do you think the guys in Fedora know about this stuff? Should we tell them?:-)

I mentioned VMs were for having fun. I wasn't. So the VM is not there atm, but I will be back to that post.

I see what you mean, Demosa. After failing completely with windows in a vm, fedora went back, and those extensions certainly helped. Isn't it funny how guys have t write extensions to get necessary parts of a GUI back?

Despite that, I'd still prefer the option of removing gnome3 altogether and grou[p installing XFCE. Is there a systemd way of changing WMs? I well know the futility of trying to delete gnome from within gnome :-/.

Demosa, I tried that extensions bit in a new vm (had to repartition the old one)

I can't get gnome-tweak-tool in Fedora, and the rest of the extensions have not affected the new gnome at all. What gives?
