I installed fedora without GRUB, silly me. I have rebooted my system with Disk 1 in, and chosen an upgrade install, and chosen to install grub in my /boot directory, not my MBR. Anaconda continues with the upgrade, not upgrading anything, but then It doesnt install grub as no changes have been made. I somehow feel I gotta reinstall Fedora. Am I right?
I have got it in my MBR, and I have a small text based version of grub which reconises no commands. Then all hell broke loose.I couldnt get into any system at all, and I have had to use Ubuntu live disk's ability to load from 1st partition, my Windows one. I have to my disconnect my big HD, as that is wwhere linux is and windows refuses to work with it connected. I also cannot reinstall my windows bootloader, no matter what I try.
This is a major prob as my mother requires it for work :s
You can get back into windows by booting from a Windows startup disk and doing "fdisk mbr". You will not be able to login to Fedora, but you can then boot from your Fedora installation disk, do
1) linux-rescue at the boot prompt
2) do "chroot /mnt/sysimage"
3) cd /boot/
4) cat grub.conf (to see if all your entries are in grub if not you need to add them)
5) do grub-install /dev/hda (if hda is your primary hard drive)
This should hopefully solve your problem and enable you to boot both Windows and Linux using GRUB. What version of Fedora are you using.
I no longer have fedora, reformatted that partition on my big HDD, and windows still doesnt like it . Is there any way I can install grub with the linux rescue, or through windows even?
