invalid compressed format (err 1)

I am trying to install FC 2 on a Pentium II 96megs of ram and 6 gig hard drive. I get :

Code:

invalid compressed format (err 1)
when trying to install. I have used these CD's to make three other installs. Any help would be appreciated.

At what part of the installation do you get the error?

What have you done to get to that stage?

Did you try running the mediacheck on that computer (even if the cds are ok on other computers it will test the drive as well.)?

Put in the FC 2 CD disc #1 Pressed enter for GUI install. I've also done
Code:

Linux text
enter. Both give me the same result.

How does one operate a media check without being able to even get to that stage in the GUI install?

I get the same results with the RH9 disc.

How I fixed it:

Originally the computer was an NT server. I changed the BIOS settings to boot from CDROM. It would not boot from CDROM.

I fdisked and reformatted the the drive to a DOS partition. Still no joy.

On a hunch I pulled the hard drive and CDROM and found the CDROM as master and the HD slave:rolleyes:

Switched the jumpers to their proper settings. HD - master CDROM - slave.

Changed the BIOS settings to detect the new configuration.

Reset the BOOT sequence to CDROM.

Formatted the HD (ext3) and installed FC 2.

Now my wife has a windows free computer!

I was having the same problem installing Ubuntu Server 7.04 (x64) on a test server. But I was attempting to install onto a SATA drive. I re-jumpered the CDROM to CS and un-pluged the IDE drive. This seem to work fine.
