invalid compressed format (err=1)

I am trying to load a Compaq despro EN with Fedora Core 4. I get the error message "invalid compressed format (err=1) -- system halted. I have successfully loaded Red Hat 7.3 on this machine, but would prefer to get Fedora working. I normally work with Solaris
at my day to day job (research engineer for a carrier) but they just introduced a machine with linux on it, so I decided to try it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Well as it turns out, the BIOS on the Compaq was ver 1.13 and the version available on the Compaq website
was 3.14. After upgrading the BIOS the installation went smooth as silk.
