hi, i am very new to linux and i install Red Hat 9.0 but then some people said the download Fedora Core 3 because it is more updated. Well i did download it and then burned the images but when i tried installing it, it kept saying this package isn't found, that package isn't there.
Because of that i want to know how i can upgrade the system by mounting the iso file. i mounted it but don't know what to do with the files.
Just burn the new CD's with Fedora 3 and put the first disc in the cd-drive.
When you have to choose how to install, i.e. Workstation etc pick upgrade existing system. This is by far the easiest way to upgrade your system.
Or you could run redhat-update to get the new packages, but then you would have an up-to-date redhat 9.
Well i did choose upgrade and it did fine until i put the second CD in. It installed withought giving that thing about missing packages, but when it asked for the 2nd CD it started giving errors about packages missing for some reason
Sounds like it is wrong on the .iso itself. Where did you get the iso's from?
Try to download the second .iso from www.linuxiso.org and try again.
It could be that there is a error during download. Do you check the discs when you begin the installation?
yea did the check in beginning of installation and it did say that i shouldn't install from this CD but it said it again when i burned another CD. I did download the iso from linuxiso.com but i think its the CDs. that's why i want to do it by mounting the iso files.
Do you have more discs that is broke?
Then perhapse it is something wrong with your burner?!?
You have another hdd with about 3 - 4 Gb free?
If you do then copy everything from the .iso's onto the hdd and then select to install from harddrive.
It could work.
