Installation on a new HDD

Total newbie on Linux os please bear with me.
Getting a new HDD and decided to have Fedora on it.
Im downloading the ISO files and finished downloading one - the 1st one.
Wrote FC2-i386-disc1.iso to CD using Nero.
Obviously Windows doesnt recognize it when cd is inserted in cdrom.
I dont intend to install it on my current HDD with windows on it (though I have 2 partitions - the other one being free) but I just wanted to know what happens when inserted before windows starts. How can anything be executed when iso is not recognized ?
What am I supposed to be looking for ?

Check the md5sum of the iso image you downloaded. For instructions
you can go to

Windoze should read the CD. If not, it's a coaster...

correct me if i am wrong, but did you write the "FC2-i386-disc1.iso" to the CD as a common file?
the "FC2-i386-disc1.iso" meant to be burned as an image file. This way all the included in the "iso" files are extracted to the CD and both windows and linux will be able to read them

i hope i was of some help
