install stops after x initializes.

ok, im having a problem where the installer stops after x initializes in fc5 and fc6

after hitting ctrl + alt +f3 i get: unable to read cdrom format

really thrown off by this since the media passes the media check.

the next thing i tried was: linux cdnodma

after doing this it gets past the unable to read cdrom format error, but doesn't continue the install.

in ctrl + alt +f3 it has the message: no /tmp/fcpconfig; not configuring zfcp

after this im stuck. really confused because i've installed fedora fc5 on this machine before but now i cant get fc5 or fc6 to install.

also installs of ubuntu and suse work a-ok. don't think that has much bearing on whats going on, but i just thought i should mention it.

Hey im having a similar problekm i think, im new to linux and FC im installing 6, have you tried a text install, i get the same problem as you when i do gui on, but i didnt know about pressing those buttons... but this is my screen after anaconda starts ..

"/dev/sdb: "pdc" and "isw" formats discovered (using isw)!"
"/dev/sdb: "sil" and "isw" formats discovered (using isw)!"
"dev/sda: "sil" and "isw" formats discovered (using isw)!"

then it stops and does nothing, im new to linux and dont know what this means so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have been through the instalation some times now, and have found if i try to put a drive in, (i dont have any i was just looking) but it sees i have 2 harddrive partitions, which is correct, and then sees four sd's eg sda, sdb, sdc and sdd, (i think) but i dont know what these are i only have 2 cd drives.

My system spec is :
P4 prescott 3.2 @ 4ghz
1Gb DDR400 @ 500mhz
Abit IC7-G mobo
3 x 80gb SATA hdds off a pci sata raid card running in RAID 0
geforce 5700LE

Cheers Chris

sda = hdd 1
sdb = hdd 2
sdc = cdrom 1
sdd = cdrom 2

i believe thats what you wanted to know. could be in a different order but i think thats most likely what they are. so far i haven't had any luck with fedora. once upon a time it worked. now it just doesn't work at all. really have no idea why.

anyway, linux assigns drives and partitions a sdx, with x equalling a letter from a-z.

Not sure whether we did have the same problem, mine was referring to my raid array but im all sorted now, if you want to know anything to make sure you werent having the same sort of problem then jsut post back and ill tell you want i did, but if you do linux text, and it mentions any formats on your harddrive, this is referring to the metadata from a current / previous raid array...

I'm experiencing the same problem. When I install, and anaconda starts, my screen goes blank and nothing happens. The only thing i see is the mouse-pointer (an X).

When i choose text install, it also stops. Referring to my harddrives as you described.

Please help me out...

well for starters, could you give me the printout of what it says when you do the linux text, then it would help if you could give me any details about your system, such as harddrive mainly, whether you run raid, or if you have had raid previously, and if you bought the hard drives new... also can you tell me what you plan doing?> as in running dual boot on a raid or jsut FC or what.... ok... once you get back to me with those, ill help as much as i can...

also if you DONT have a raid, and you dont want to install on one, then boot into rescue mode with

"linux nodmraid rescue" then once at the prompt, type :

dmraid -r

then it should give you similar output to when you install in text mode, once this has printed out to screen, type in dmraid -l and there you can see which companies metadata you have, not much more i can tell you until i know your intentions, but if you want to boot to raid then as far as i know there is NOW WAY to do this without a COMPLETE format and creating the array from scratch...
