Install Over ftp
 

i've been having a problem trying to install Fedora over ftp sense I can't seem to burn an image that Fedora's media test likes.

After booting with floopys (one to boot it an one to allow installation over ftp, http, networks,etc) it can't seem to find the files on the ftp server.

I can access the files with an ftp program using the exact same info I used to try to install.

I have an ideal what the problem maybe but no clue how to fixit.

The install ask for the name of the ftp server in one field then ask for the directory path in another field.

ftp.server.com-- in one field
directory/path--in another field

but it adds a "/" to the end of the server field and the begining of the path field which leaves it looking for
ftp.server.com//directory/path

does the extra "/" it adds make a difference or could there be something else.

Yes. Edit that out before you hit enter.

The problem is it happens after I hit enter.
I entered the info exactly in the following formats a number of times each.
Also it definitly logs into the server, and I have checked and rechecked the path.

ftp.server.com
directory/path
i get files not found at ftp.server.com//directory/path

ftp.server.com
/directory/path
i get files not found at ftp.server.com//directory/path

ftp.server.com/
directory/path
i get invalid ftp address

ftp.server.com/
/directory/path
i get invalid ftp address

ftp.server.com/directory/path
leaving directory field blank
i get invalid ftp address

I got disparate an even tried to make an ftp.server.com//directory/path
on the ftp server which needless to say didn't happen.

I even tried it through http which does the same thing.

No matter what I do it insist on adding that extra cursed "/"

I tried to do the same thing on a older IBM, wwhich refused to boot any cd that wasn't microsoft (it was the machine, not the cdrom drive). I don't know if I solved that, as my network card wasn't recognized by the installer, so I couldn't use it anyways. I must be destined to not use any Red Hat products. You are using the floppy for Core1? I don't know if the paths are valid any more. I put Debian on the old thing. Maybe you need another distro too (I know that's not the answer you were looking for)

server name mirror.hiwaay.net
directory redhat/fedora/linux/core/1/i386/os

there are two more folders to get to the file it's lookin for but it adds those automatically

If you have 2 computers you can copy over all the contents of the cds you burnt (which probably haven't failed if you can copy over all those files - me and a few others have had bogus media failures - or at least they only fail on certain computers) to the others ftp server and install over the network locally.

I think the install looks for a subdirectory of "Fedora" wherever you give the path, so you give it the directory containing "Fedora".
