how to set up awstats configuration file LogFile for use with multiple sites

I have been groping through Fedora 14 for the past month or so after working with Mandriva for the past 10 years. At this point I am almost ready to commission a new server, to be ready for the imminent upgrade to Fedora 15. I've come to respect Fedora faster than I would have expected but then Fedora and Mandriva had much in common.

But I have run into a problem installing awstats (7.0.3 from rawhide in this case). After running awstats_configure.pl for the original setup I need to assign LogFile in the conf file. In this server there are 8 separate logs (regular and error) which are associated with 4 'virtual hosts'. Logging is working just fine right now, but awstats of course will know nothing about that as yet.

I don't knit (ie I am not familiar with perl) so I would appreciate some help in resolving this without having to learn perl syntax in the process. Seems to me I cannot have more than one log file identified for awstats?? I could get along with a single combined log if I had to but separate logs make debugging of sites so very much easier. Analyzing traffic is not a 'big deal' until we switch from development to production this fall, but I'd like to get this dealt with when I am not in a state of panic further down the line.

Thanks for helping me set the best course to take.

George

You can have multiple config files in /etc/awstats that cover all your log files. In your cron job, you just run /usr/local/awstats/tools/awstats_updateall.pl now

Thanks so much, Gilead!

I was so mired in so many things that I could not see the forest for the trees. In setting up a completely new server I kind of 'forgot' (when it came to awstats) that this was no longer a single host on a single server, and just did not set up the required conf files. No wonder awstats was so unhappy with me!

I'm a retired forensic psych by way of background so I am well acquainted with the power of a simple nudge to help resolve a sticking point.

My sincere thanks for taking the time to provide me with that badly needed nudge.

Glad it helped I was recently asked a similar question by someone I work with so it was fresh in my mind.
