how to bind windows keys on keyboard?

Does anyone know how to bind the windows keys on the keyboard to react like they do in Windows?

I want to be able to press either Windows key and have it execute the same as <Alt><F1>.

i created a .Xmodmap file for the keys. I assumed I could then go to "preferences" -> "keyboard shortcuts"

and set "Show the panel Menu" as "F13", but it won't let me. the keys are recognized through xev, and the keycodes are correct.

my .Xmodmap file:
Code:
keycode 115=F13
keycode 116=F14
keycode 117=F15
anybody have any ideas?

i've searched this forum and google, and only found other people with the same problem, or some very vague answer.

thanks.

If you have this line
Code:
Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file and its commented out, uncomment it and see if the keys work. Then you can map them after you know they work

You are in the right place, just bind the shortcut "Show the panel menu" to Super_L and you are good to go
