Hello,
I have a Dell Dimension 4100 128+256=384 MB of RAM. It has
fedora c5 on a 20 GB hard drive (the secondary) and fedora c9
on approximately 60 GB of a 250 GB hard drive (the primary).
Sound and videos work on c5. On the new c9, I get sound with Rhythmbox playing a podcast and videos without sound. Of course,
c9 was downloaded without flash-plugin-9.0.124.0 because it is
not quite open source. I downloaded flash-plugin-9.0.124.0-release.i386.rpm, changed the owner to root moved it to
/root/Downloads and did
# rpm -Uvh flash-plugin-9.0.124.0-release.i386.rpm
Now I can play videos but no sound.
PulseAudio Volume Control (Applications-->Sound & Video-->Pulse)
and the volume control in the upper right of the screen don't
help.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Tonight when I booted up, I tried
applications->sound & video->pulseaudio volume control
It wouldn't run or didn't run. Yet when I tried Google
videos, they had sound.
It seems ok for now, but I don't understand it. There have been
updates of the software and the security, perhaps that's why.
There used to be a gold star icon on the top panel that was
connecter to selinux. It's gone now.
Well, for now I don't have a problem.

Today when I booted up fedora c9 there was no sound. I looked at
Applications->System tools->System monitor
and discovered that PulseAudio volume control was running. I
killed it and then I had sound.
If it turns out that I have some control over the situation,
then I can look at /etc/rc.d to see if I can prevent PulseAudio
from starting up.
