help with hp-setup command
I am trying to install an HP 6940 printer on Fedora 6 over the network. I used the "hp-setup -m 192.168.0.137" (ip for the printer) but when I run the command, all I get is the usage format. I know there are other options before thet ip address, but can't remember what to use to skip. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

run cups and use this driver
http://openprinting.org/test/show_pr...P-DeskJet_6940 cups has an option to setup a network printer. 2) can you get access to a web browser when you logged in? |
That is where I got the ppd file for the printer. By accessing a web browser do you mean can I get to the printer administration pages through my browser? If so, I can. I did try going through the gui (system > administration > printers) but when I print a test page, the job is sent to the printer but does not print. Thanks for the help.

yes that is exactly what I meant in my (2) use a web browser
|
I am able to access the printer through a web browser. In cups, I tried using the option for Appletalk/HP Jetdirect, but there is an IMac running OSX on the network. Is it possible the IMac is causing a conflict?
|
appletalk is the wrong option.
list the options you can see pls. off hand I don't think it should cause interference....you are attempting to install a printer which is not local to your machine but is turned on? over the network |
The options I have are:
Other, LPT1,Serial Port 1, Serial Port 2, AppleSocket/HP JetDirect, Internet Printing Protocol (ipp), LPD/LPR Host or Printer or Windows Printer Via Samba. I chose the AppleTalk/HP JetDirect because it is an HP printer with a networking card built in. The printer is not local to my computer, it is turned on and I am attempting to install over the network. I share it with two other people. The IMac is able to print sucessfully and one Windows pc can print. |
I stand corrected. it may be appletalk/jet after all

however, who "owns" the printer? the mac or the ms?
|
I am not sure I understand what you mean by who owns the printer. I installed it on the mac first. Does that help?
