Background:
I opted out of installing GRUB when installing Fedora Core 2. I don't like using boot loaders; I'm afraid that something will go awry if I want to get rid of it. Anyways, I was under the impression that a floppy boot disk would be created. I was confused by the end of the installation when it hadn't asked to create one. Then, I search Google and find that the kernel's too big to even fit on a floppy.
Problem:
I installed Fedora Core 2 on hdc1, a dedicated hard drive. I have no way of booting to it. I'm willing to install a boot loader on this dedicated hard drive, but the Fedora Core 2 install only allows GRUB to be installed on hda (which I really want to avoide, because I don't want to go through all that baloney regarding dual-boot w/ Windows XP, which is what I have on hda). Any help getting this thing booted would be greatly appeciated. Thanks!
I don't know.. I'm just not comfortable with dual-boot. Though, I think I made a solution:
Unplug my hda, so only my hdc remains. Then, anaconda will only be able to install GRUB to hdc. I install GRUB to hdc, plug my hda back in, and go into my bios and choose hdc as the boot drive when I want Fedora (I'm not gonna be using it that often, as far as I know). Because otherwise, I'm pretty much hard-core Windows.
Just so you know, I and many others have had zero problems dual booting any flavor of linux with any flavor of windows. I am currently running RH9 with XP and I have had zero problems. Besides, removing the bootloader is as simple as "fdisk /MBR" (don't do that unless you know you only want windows to boot). Boot floppy would work just fine, but I have always had a hard time finding images to create one, and I also haven't spent any time looking.
