Help Installing Fedora Core 3

Ok, here's the lowdown. I'm a newbie (only 2 months into this Linux stuff,) and have bought a distro of Fedora Core 3 from osdisc.com. I got it home, stuck it in my computer, and ran anaconda. I get through setting up the partitions, and get to the "about to install page." Then it gives me an error that says there may be a bug. No matter what button I push on it, it ends the install. I have to go, class is over. Write more at 4. Ok, I'm back. Sorry, I have to go to highschool, so my day is split Any way, if you need to get a hold of me to help (please!) e-mail me at whurleyrhs@yahoo.com. Here it is from the top, exactly what happened: I put in the cd, turned the computer on, and the fedora core screen came up. I pushed enter to begin installation, and opted to skip the media test (which by the way, did pass) and begin the installation. Ok, this sucks. I have to do this at school, so bear with me. I do have the crash dump file if it would help you, but e-mail me and I can send it as an attachment (it is too big to enter in the forum.) I chose the graphical interface, and it booted fine. I choose English for the language and keyboard. After selecting the keyboard and pushing “Next” it gave me this bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed.
I chose “Ignore” and another one came up. This one said: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. I again chose “Ignore” and got a bug again. This one was familiar: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. Again I chose to “Ignore” it, and another bug: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. Finaly I get to the next step. I chose “Personal Desktop” and click “Next”. I want it to automaticaly partition my hard drive, and click “Next”. I get bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. Again, I “Ignore” it, and then bug: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. “Ignore”, and bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. Again, “Ignore” and another bug: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. Then bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. “Ignore” and bug: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. “Ignore” Now I get to my hard drives and partitioning them. I want it to remove all Linux partitions, and fill in that box. I have two hard drives, so I select the one I want Linux on (I am attempting to dual boot for my familiy’s sake!) I want to make sure that it is what I want, so I opt to “review (and modify if needed) the partitions created”. I click “Next” and I get a warning: You have chosen to remove all Linux partitions (and ALL DATA on them) on the following drives: /dev/hda are you sure you want to do this?” I click “Yes”. I get a bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. I click “Ignore” and another pops up: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. Again, I click “Ignore”. Now I mess with the partitions. I click “/dev/hdb” “new” “mount on: /home” “size: 10000” and remove the box on hda (my Windows hard drive.) “ok” I get bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. I “Ignore” it, and another pops up: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. I “Ignore” it, and do another partition. I click on “/dev/hdb” “new” “mount point: /usr” “size: 50000” and remove the box on hda. I click “ok” and get a bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. I “Ignore” it, and another pops up: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. I “Ignore” it, and click “Next”. I’m done with the hard drives. I don’t want GRUB as my boot loader, so I click on the box for “Change boot loader”. I choose the bubble for “Do not unstall a boot loader” and click “ok”. I want to continue without a boot loader, as I will use my own. I click “Next”. I don’t want any network drives, so I unslect eth0. I know I cant use a network, so I continue through the warning it gives me on that. Now I’m at the firewall. I enable it, and select the boxes for HTTP , HTTPS, and FTP. I enabe SELinux and click “Next”. I select English (USA) and click “Next”. My location is in Mountain Time, so I select America/Denver. I Click “Next”. Then I input my root password twice, and click “Next”. I want just the default software packages, so I leave it selected and click “Next”. Now for the moment of truth! I get to the ABOUT TO INSTALL page, and click “Next”. I do have the cd’s I need, so I click “Continue”. Now I get bugs: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. I “Ignore” it, and another pops up: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. I ignore it, and again, bug: Assertion (sectors <=63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom()failed. I “Ignore” it, and another pops up: Assertion ((C* heads + H)* sectors + S = = A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. Once again, I ingore it. Now I get an error I haven’t seen yet. The title is “Exception Occurred”. The text says: An unhandled exception has occurred. This is most likely to be a bug. Please copy the full text of this exception or save the crash dump file to a floppy then file a detailed bug report against anaconda at http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/
I saved it to floppy, and visited the site. But I don’t know how to report the bug! If anyone has any idea on this, PLEASE help me! I could use any help, a good distro of Fedora Core, a way to debug it, or how to file a bug report would be GREAT! Thank you, so, so much! (PS: I do have the crash dump file, if it would help. E-mail me and I’ll send it)

Ok, not getting any help here. I put this same thing in fedoraforum.org and got a response within an hour. So, if you actually want someone to answer you, go there for FC help. Good bye!

For those who find this via search...

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=138419

See "additonal comment 2" - ignore the naysayer at comment 5, who obviously had an actual hardware issue.

synopsis:

Can you try the update image at
http://people.redhat.com/~katzj/fc3-part-upd.img and see if that helps?

(Instructions for using an update disk are available at
http://rhlinux.redhat.com/anaconda/updatedisks.html)

It wasn't that difficult - and I got the install done flawlessly.

GAVolink (or anyone),
I am having a similar problem, and found the fedora link, but I don't have a floppy drive and therefore cannot install the update. Any suggestions??
