Fedora takes too long to load

Hi,

I have just installed Fedora 8. It all went fine until I updated my system with "yumex". I also have added livna repo to be able to add multimedia support. Then I installed Skype (with video - where I also installed gscpa to load my webcam). After I rebooted my system (Dell Inspiron Laptop)it booted well and everything is fine, I logged in and when I type "startx" to start the x window it take like 10 minutes to load everything. And when I press any icon it takes like 2 minutes to initiate the program I wanted. I thought compiz might be the reason. I erased it with "yum erase compiz" and rebooted, yet all is the same. I use gnome.
Also, I have disabled some services which I do not think I use or I need.

Now, also volume control does not work, yet my sound card was detected and I could hear the test sound.

Any help will be appreciated,

Max

I have noticed that this problem disappears when I switched to KDE. But I am not sure I know what is wrong in Gnome that would cause all these troubles.
