Fedora on Dell Latitude C600

I installed FC3 lastnight on my Dell Latitude C600. Last time I intstalled Linux on this laptop I remember having problems with the graphics driver or something. But that was with Red Hat 9 or something like that. Any way, during the install everything looked fine. After the install, as soon as the GUI starts, there are two black lines going down the middle of the screen, and there is an image of the desktop over lapping the desktkop. I'm not sure if the problem is in the graphics driver or in the monitor itself. I know that the graphics card in C600 is an ATI Rage Mobility 128. Fedora found that while I was installing. Am I suppoed to use a generic monitor, or what?

Thanks,
Clayton

Hey
This might be your graphics config. Your resolution being too big for your monitor. Also make sure you're using the ATI drivers and not something generic

I installed FC4. after installation, while starting, suddenly the monitor turned to green and computer stopped processing. nothing has changed for 20 min and then i shut down the computer by hand. same problem occured while installing "suse". i also tried the knoppix liveCD and the problem reoccurred. i am using a loptop. acer travelmate 4102wlmi. graphic card is ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700. wide screen.

Hmmnn... Interesting. I have a Dell Latitude C510 and an ATI Rage Mobility 128 card. My guess would be that it's your moniter. I've had a lot of good luck with most ATI products. I suggest changing your resolution to 800 x 600 and refresh rate to 60. Have you tried using an external moniter? If you don't know your moniter then don't claim it to be something it's not. Might cause problems might solve problems. You're choice.

Mandriva 2006 for Dell Latitude C600

Hi There,

I have a Dell laptop, its a Dell Latitude C600. I would like to tweak the video to the max, so that I may get best video possible. When I run (from the command line) glxgears, I can get a very high frame rate. So I guess what I am asking is what must be done to tweak the video for the best performance, and simply just great video. I am not sure if I have to recompile the kernel for the best video and/or tweak the info in the Xorg and XFR86Config. I had another system before where I tweak the XFR86 and added the chipID. But as for the Dell Latitude C600, the video card on this laptop is ATI Rage 128 Mobilty. So can someone be so kind as to provide me with good information as to what must be done? I appreciate it very much. Thank you.
