Fedora crashes at startup
I'm fairly new to linux and need help!!! I recently installed fedora core 1 onto my PC. The first few times I ran it, it worked fine. After running it a few times, it stopped. When it enters the screen that tells you it's loading, it goes until it hits the point where it says " setting hostname". At this point it goes into a black screen....... and that's it. I tried re-installing it... to no avail. The third time I re-installed it, I went to do the updates. When they were finished, I restarted.... and it was still doing it. I'm running it on a PIII 550MHz machine, with 128MB of RAM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Sean Stevens

I don't know if the following works for fedora. But try to go to a command line (ctrl + alt + F1) and log in as root (with the su command).
Type: hostname localhost (or if it doesn't work, try hostname localhost.localdomain) Afterwards, go back to the graphical interface (ctrl + alt + F7). I once had some sort of similar problem, however it gave me a clear error message about it, and it was on SlackWare and Mandrake. Try it out, you never now. |
