fedora Core 3 Installation With Windows XP
 

I am a new user to the Linux program, and I finally took the time to download the ISOs for Fedora Core 3. I began to perform the installation, but I became a bit nervous about it. I have never installed another OS besides Windows, so this is an experience for me. I just want to make sure I do it right, but I need a little bit of instruction.
I have a Dell Dimension desktop 4600i running Windows XP Professional. I want to install Fedora and run a dual boot so that both Fedora and Windows can both be used. I believe that there is a partitioning program on the first installation disc, but I am not exactly sure how to use it. Could someone help me to figure out what I must do to complete the installation with a dual boot system? I am really excited to begin using Linux, but I want to get through the installation successfully.

1) linux is a OS, not a program...

2) what partition-util do you have... powerquest? acronis? something else? the basic idea is you jump in, create the linux partition(s) and say 'commit changes' and it'll probably want to reboot...

-- how much [free] space have you got, and how much are you willing to take away from MS?

I have an 80GB Hard Drive on my PC, and I am wanting to give at least 20GB for LInux. Unfortuantely I do not have any partitioning programs. I was told though, that I could use the Fedora installation CDs to partition the hard drive for a dual boot partition. I am just not completely sure how to do this. Thank you for responding so quickly.

read this before you install fedora. It's for FC2 but the dual boot problem persists, in FC3 i think. It will save you time.
