Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 3 64Bit?

Hi, is it possible to go from Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 3 (64Bit) using yum or some other updater?
I've look around and tried downloading the 64Bit version of fedora-release and yum, I had to override a few things to install them. When I went to try yum --update it wouldn't run at all and gave me debug information. Now I believe this is because my python version isn't up to date enough so I installed the latest version of that (i386) but it still won't work and I think this is because the older version is still the default.
Anyway, how can I change the default python version? And after I do that, should the upgrade be OK after then?
Thanks

I assume your current install is 32 bits?

Your file system is fine to use with 64 bit, but all your executable binaries have to be upgraded to 64 bits. You could try it, after thoroughly backing up any data you wish to keep.

Should work by simply updating your yum.conf to read "/fedora/3" wherever it currently says "/fedora/1", and "x86_64" instead of "i386"; having said that, I didn't try doing it this way when upgrading from FC2. The CD install was sufficiently convenient and people warned me that I'd probably discover problems with the yum upgrade method, some of which might not be immediately apparent.

So my recommendation would be for a fresh install.
