Hope someone can help with this. I've googled, and failed. I have done a couple of linux installs so not a total noob.
Attempting to boot off of a fresh DVD-RW of a Fedora 9 ISO to install to a partition on my local hd.
System boots, bios post runs, boots from DVD, i get the inital menu (do you want to install, install text mode, recover etc). I choose the first option, the kernel loads and then i get this:
BUG: INT 14: CR2 ffb4100
Any ideas?
The only google result i got for that was in Polish.
I would suggest you try and burn another copy of the ISO image for FC9. Try also booting your system from the DVD drive using another bootable image (OS or utility tool), this well determine wether you may have a hardware issue or suspect copy of the ISO image for FC9.
I checksummed the ISO, it was ok. Burned the image to DVD again and got the same result. Not keen on a 3G+ download as a check for the Fedora DVD install, I grabbed a Ubuntu distro overnight (curious about it anyway) and whacked that on my spare space instead. (Also with numerous problems, but got there in the end.)
Ubuntu install issues were related to my mobo (Asus P5QL PRO), whether or not it was a similar problem to the Fedora install, no idea. Ubuntu installer insisted on trying to read from a floppy drive when none were present (disabled in BIOS), and it had problems identifying the DVD-RW combo until i specified to boot with all_generic_ide parameter.
For interests sake, if it helps anyone, with this board, i also had to download Linux drivers from the Asus website to enable the onboard NIC. Asus Express Gate (onboard OS) is more useful than it seems at first glance.
I had a similar problem with my Compaq 6910p. Booted okay and got to the install menus, went through the usual language/kb process and then stopped asking me for a driver.
After trying Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS which both dumped me into Busybox, I started to wonder if it was a problem with DVD drivers.
Success... Copying the ISO image of Fedora to a small DOS partition allowed me to install from the ISO on HDD.
Really strange that it boots to DOS and uses a standard ASPI driver for the DVD fine but none of the unix distros want to know.
I still don't have a DVD drive though and a really annoying problem with the lack of ATI X2300 video driver means no games Black screens all the way with Eve-O.
A bit pissed about the Divx drivers etc. I am not paying for them!
