Fedora 11 upgrade: "/dev/sda1 not cleanly unmounted" recurs after fsck
 

I've got Fedora 10 installed on my Lenovo ThinkPad T61 x86_64, and I'm trying to upgrade to Fedora 11.

The yum upgrade, yum install preupgrade, and preupgrade steps went fine. My grub boot menu is showing the Fedora 11 Upgrade line, as it should.

But if I boot into the Fedora 11 Upgrade, I get an error box: /dev/sda1 not cleanly unmounted, reboot and let the device be cleanly unmounted.

I've now several times rebooted into Fedora 10, at runlevel 1, and I've run fsck, and also e2fsck. I think my /dev/sda1 is clean as a whistle, especially given that Fedora 10 happily boots normally.

But when I boot into the Fedora 11 Upgrade, I still get the /dev/sda1 not cleanly unmounted error.


Any suggestions?

Try to boot into the fedora 11 rescue mode, and do not let it mount the drives (it should ask you).
When in, run the standard fsck /dev/sda1, and i would suggest running it on the other paritions as well.
when done, make sure no partitions are mounted, and reboot and try the fedlra 11 upgrade utility.

After getting the installer for fedora 11 trough preupgrade I experienced the same problem. (disk is not unmounted cleanly).Since I'm a noob with fedora and Linux in general could anyone inform me if there is a way to run the installer without the disk cleanness check because I'm pretty sure that the disk is clean. Thank you in advance!

I had the same problem. I tried all kinds of things (change timezone to UTC, change system date without syncing hw clock) but nothing worked. I finally changed the filesystem from ext2 to ext3 (with tune2fs -j /dev/sdax), and that did the trick.
