FC5 Headers Files

I'm running FC5 and find I need the headers for an app installation. I don't see anything called that in the various repositories visible through yum but have found and installed kernel-devel.

Did I get them when I did that or is there still something else that I have to do?

Thanks for your help.

Is this the kernel headers you're referring to? If so, the package you need is kernel-devel.

Well, unfortunately, things are still not working. When I look under /etc/source/redhat (or one of the other sub-directories) there's nothing there. Just the directory structure.

Is that really the way it's supposed to be?

Thanks for your help.

Maybe if you let us know what you are trying to install someone can provide more helpful info. The kernel devel is not the kernel source package, but it works fine for compiling drivers etc.

The kernel headers are stored in a different place for each version of the kernel:

Code:
cd /usr/src/kernels/`uname -r`-`uname -m`
should take you to the headers for the currently running kernel (assuming that's what you've installed). See what you've installed:

Code:
[david@malvern ~]$ ls /usr/src/kernels/
total 16K
drwxr-xr-x 18 root root 4.0K Jul 20 18:17 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5-i686
drwxr-xr-x 18 root root 4.0K Aug 10 20:41 2.6.17-1.2174_FC5-i686

I'm trying to get the free VMWare server running under FC5.

I'm on a different machine right now but will run those lines you provided and see what they return.

Thanks for the help.
