FC4 Install woes

I have been trying to install FC4 on my system. I got as far as fully installing it and then rebooting to run the system for the first time. I managed to get to the desktop, and launched the blackjack game in GNOME as a quick test and the machine locked up. Rebooting, I get the following: GRUB Loading stage2Read Error. Machine is locked up at this point. Any suggestions?

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VRXP with Promise RAID disabled. Any good suggestions for a KT333 motherboard for my Athlon XP 2100? This board gave me lots of problems when I ran Windows XP, so I am open to trying a new motherboard vendor.
