Hi ... another new person to Fedora Core 4 here
Well, i was wondering if FC4 can open an executable file (.exe) seeing as though my Motorola SURFboard modem needs the computer to have the drivers already installed ...
When i try it, all i get is an error ...
Help would really be appreciated

.exe isn't the only type of executable file, and the problem isn't directly related to executability (read man chmod).

The answer to the real question ("can FC4 run windows programs?") is yes: FC4, like (almost) every other distro, can do that, by using WINE (WINE Is Not an Emulator) to emulate windows. I got a MIDI editor working in it.

But I don't think you'll get your modem working that way. I think you'll need to load the proper kernel module and put it in /etc/modules (at least that's so on my debian box).

Well ... for FC4 i don't know but i always get an error when trying to open .exe files
I need to open the .exe files because it is the file format on the driver installation disc on my modem
By the way, what is this emulator program that you are talking about ? It seems interesting

That .exe is not only the "drivers" for the modem, those are the "Windows drivers" for the modem. If you're running Linux instead of Windows, you don't want/need the Windows drivers.

You also don't mention the specific model of modem or whether it's an internal card or how it connects if external. If it's external and hooks up via ethernet, no drivers are necessary. If it connects via USB make sure it doesn't also have ethernet support. If not, find some info on making the specific model work. A quick bit of searching on Google for instance reveals this:

Umm my modem model is Motorola SURFboard modem 5100, it is external and connected via a USB, but there is an option to choose ethernet as well

... Then choose ethernet, all other things being equal!
