FC3 on AMD woes....

Hi all - I am a bit of a n00b but the problem I am seeing is so fundamental I don't think it can be my fault...

I am trying to install the 64 bit FC3 on my system - hardware as below:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Gigabyte k8vm800m mobo
1GB PC3200 RAM
200GB WD IDE HDD
AverMedia DVB-T 771 tuner
(will be adding better video card later but for now using onboard)

I have downloaded the ISOs for the disks and run the disk check which they all pass. Then when I continue on with install I randomly get one of two different errors:

- Sometimes I get Anaconda start and probe the monitor etc - then it gets says starting x server 1 2 3 - and then the system hangs with a blank screen

- Some times it comes up with the following (copied manually so please excuse any typos!):

running anaconda, the fedora core system installer - please wait..
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "usr/bin/anaconda", line 351 , in ?
import dispatch
File "usr/lib/anaconda/dispatch.py, line 35, in ?
from bootloader import writebootloader, bootloaderSetupChoices
Filer "/usr/lib/anaconda/bootloader.pg, line 32,in ?
from booty import *
Importerror: No module named booty
install exited abnormally

Either way it doesn't work

I have tried a lot of stuff - right now I don't have any cards in the system at all, I have tried booting with the 'linux noprobe' option, I have disabling my SATA controller (even thought my HDD is IDE) and a few other cosmetics.

The system is new but I have successfully loaded RH9 onto it without any problems at all.

If anyone has any ideas at all I would really appreciate it

it seems like it may be having a problem with your video. try installing in text mode. not as pretty but it may get you past this particular problem. of course, to get into a graphical environment, you may yet have to solve this problem. otherwise, you may not be able to get X to start up.

text mode should be one of the choices when you boot from the first disk. you will type something like linux text at the boot prompt.
