FC3 install DVD fails to detect SATA drives

I am trying to install FC3 on a Dell Optiplex GX620 with a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB SATA and a WD Caviar SE 250GB SATA hard disks. When I boot from FC3 install DVD, it cannot detect any of the hard disks. It will proceed as far as partition manager, and that's it since there is no disks to create partitions on.
The install media is fine, since I recently installed FC3 on 3 different machines from this DVD.
What's very weird is that I could install FC3 from the same DVD on nother computer which has two Seagate Barracuda's identical to the one in the above mentioned computer (this particular computer is also a Dell Optiplex, only a GX280 one).
Same install DVD, same hard disks - different results.
Any idea what might be going on?

See the bios configuration on both machines, the kernel doesn't always recognize the sata interface. You need to change it to raid or sata mode, avoid the compatibility mode.

Good Luck

SATA drives

I had the same problem. However, it is easily solved. Just go into the Bios, entry drives I believe.

There is an option that lets you choose between the factory setting and the compatibility mode. Choose the compatibility mode (that is said to be slower and less efficient). You will find that the installation works fine then.

I am installing at the moment, so I cannot give you more details. Just look into the Bios you will quickly find what I mean.

Also, you may want to think about upgrading to FC4 or 6. I have found 6 to remedy many problems and 4 as well. Especially when it comes to media players, file types, etc...

Yes, I agree with Thilips. The later distributions should support SATA better. The GX620 should also more then powerful enough for you to try the new Compiz or Beryl 3D desktops with the FC6 distribution.

Any particular reason for sticking to FC3? If not double that number :)

EDIT: Ooops, I presume you have upgraded several times by now Bagatur? Didn't read the date on the original post at first... :-)
