FC on a Toshiba A70-RW1
Hi there,
I have a new Toshiba A70-RW1 shipped with windows installed. I want to install FC3 or FC4. I mostly be using Linux but rarely may need windows and so want to keep windows as it is. The present RAM is 512 but I will be adding another 1GB soon. The disk size is 80GB and I want to keep about 8-10GB for windows, where I will be storing some pictures from GigCam so that I can share those from both linux/windows. I need suggestion about HD partition. I plan for the following partitions: / , /usr , /home , /boot , /swp All the user data will be in /home and any new softwares will be in /usr/local. Can I keep the windows in the primary partition and put all of the linux partitions in the extended partition as logical? Where should I put the /boot and /swp? Do I really need a /boot? An image of the recovery CDs are stored in HD. I am not sure of how to start with keeping windows untouch. If there is some other suggestions, that would be great for me. May I take the opportunity to thank in advance. More information of the notebook is available in: http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Pr...roduct=2515622 Thanks. alam |
Hi
It's me again! I also want to keep windows data in to drives. A max of 2G for basic installation and 5G-8G as a data drive. What should be the good place to put the data drive. How about last 5G-8G of the disk? Thanks. alam |
I like Fedora, I do not know why. So I tried to installed Fedora core 4 on my Toshiba laptop (I installed FC3 in my old sony vaio). But FC4 did not like my Toshiba A70-RW1.
Well, at the begining touch pad was not recogized and text mode installation was recommended. I went through. My laptop came with XP installed and the disc was not partitioned. I may be wrong but did not see anything that I could keep XP intake, partition the disk and go ahead. If some one knows, please correct me. I then tried Mandrake 10.1, super!!!!!!!!!! I could shrink the windows partition and install linux safely. So far touch pad, battery monitor, sound, X etc. are working. Unfortunatley, I have only three cds out of six. So I could not install gnome. I can access windows (NTFS) without any problem. I am now planning to change my mind to like Mandrake. Is there anything known that FC should be thought better over Mandrake? |
