error whilst installing fedora core 6

Hi there

Im having a problem installing fedora core 6 on vmware 6.0.045731 running windows xp sp2 i get to the part where its time to partition and i get an error saying: An error has occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of the problem.

I've installed fedora core 1 on it yesterday and it installed perfectly
i've been on this now since 11am yesterday and now its 4.20am following day and ive been at it nonstop. I even uninstalled vmware and went through the registry deleting all 858 entries. I've been trying for 9 months on and off to install linux and its really pissing me off now. Google is crap for linux problems alls i got for my problem or similar was an entry on this site that had no answer that was 2001 someone got the same error whilst installing red hat 5 but there was no conclusion!

Please help

Something ive just realised is where it says select drive(s) for this installation. And a box underneath, there is no drives in the box its just blank so how can i get it to give me a choice or even have 1 drive in the box?

So none of you linux geniuses have a solution?

I've installed fedora 1 and it installed fine. At the part where 6 frigs up there's an sta drive where there is none on 6! So i ask you how can i get the installation to detect the drive? I've googled, i've lost count how many times i've tried to install the damn thing somebody please help!

Do you need to run it with vmware?

I suggest you first set up your partitions using a GParted Live CD Version 0.3.3 has proper NTFS support. I've used it to shink and expand patitions for Win2K and XP without problems.

When you get to the partitioning stage of the FC6 install select the custom option. Then set up the partitions how you want them, using the spaces you made with GParted. When you get to the BOOT settings have a carefull look at what it is going to do. Make sure it installs GRUB to hda not hda1 to make sure it goes in the MBR.

Can you show us the output of fdisk? You can run it from a command line in XP.

I don't want linux to be my only operating system maybe in the future but i know crap about it now. Also i want to be able to access it easy. I know there's another way other than using a virtual machine but this seems like the best option for me.

Edit:

I downloaded gparted loaded it up it loaded fine but then no drives are there to partition the only things that are highlighted at the top are gparted and help, click on gparted and the only thing that can be clicked is refresh devices click on that and nothing happens! Whats going on why is it not recognising my harddrive? Whats best slackware or gentoo ive always fancied one of these im quickly going off fedora fkinbstardshit. Downloaded 15 GB of linux distro's this week!
Btw i cleaned the drive did a chkdsk restart.

Edit:

Ive gone for solaris 10 see if i get any support using this it installed straight way!
