I would try again, and if it failed I would check the md5sum. Sounds to me like it may be a bad burn. If not, and if you can bypass that portion of the setup, you may be able to set up a root password later using "passwd root" as the root user. (Therein lies the paradox - you have to BE the root user.) However, should FC4 boot and default the lack of password to a BLANK password, then you can log in from the commandline and change the password. Looks something like this....
login: root
password: [hit enter]
#: passwd root
New UNIX password: [enter password here]
Repeat UNIX password : [enter the same password as above]
password set!
