Custom kernel for Fedora 3 install

When I first got into linux I attempted to use Fedora Core 3. During install it would hang up while trying to load sata_sil and give me a message saying "Disabling IRQ #10". No boot options would fix that. I have two SATA drives, one with Windows and one with Linux, and it uses a SiI SATA controller.

So, I switched to using Slackware 10. I was able to install that and update the kernel to 2.6.9. It detects and uses my SATA drives perfectly. One is /dev/sda and the other is /dev/sdb.

Now, I'm studying for my LPIC cert and I'd like to switch to Fedora Core 3 since it's a bit more relevant.

Is there anyway I can use the working kernel I have now for the installation of FC3 in an attempt to get past the sata_sil problem?

Thanks!
