Can I upgrade from FC3 to FC8? I have 2 FC8 cds.
 

Since my version of Linux is no longer supported, I am trying to find a solution to upgrade: I have two other problems -

1)I have one hard drive with Linux FC3 on one partition, & one unaccessible partition with Windows XP Home. I want to get rid of XP Home and turn it into a hard drive with either 2 different current Linux distros on both distros, or just one partition with Linux on it but I have no software to do it.

2)I'm starting to have problems with sound: click volume bar on online websites, but no sound comes out after using it for about an hour. I know there's nothing wrong with the sound card.

Sorry, if this is too much or if I've "hijacked" a thread or I've made many unrelated stuff all on this one thread, instead of others.

If you mean by FC8 fedora 8, why not Fedora 9 if you,re going for a new OS ?
Just my opinion I am not in favor of upgrading I prefer a clean install.
Backup all you,re data first and if you a /home do not format it
Nearly every distro provide you with a tool to divide you,re hard disk in the way you wish

Because I do not have the Fedora 9 cds. And I'm afraid that if something goes wrong, it might mess up the new OS and I would end up having to reinstall again, so I think it's better to use a slightly older, more stable version, first?

I've gotten hold of 2 FC9 cds, but still unsure how to upgrade/format?

What I want to do is get rid of HPFS/NTFS where Windows ME Home is inaccessible, and put FC9 in its place if possible? Because this is on the 1st partition on my 2nd hdd, it takes time to start Linux via a Startup Menu, and sometimes Windows will take over due to the HPFS/NTFS partition being the 1st partition on this 2nd hdd, and since it's inaccessible, it will sometimes automatically go into my first hdd with Windows XP, then sometimes Windows will say there's a keyboard error or some other error, and I will need to restart the computer 3 or 4 times to start Linux. Can I install Fedora Core 9 over Fedora Core 3 via the FC9 CDs or do I need to get a some type of partition software first? I don't want a clean format because I don't to lose valuable information from previous versions. Can you give me an example of a software name to backup information and a starter on how to format the drive? I'm sorry if this question is put in the inappropriate location or if it's too long. Thank you for your help.

If I understand you well you like to replace Windows ME with Fedora 9 ?
How space is used by windows ME ?
Second to replace Fedora 3 by Fedora 9 is possible too , Fedora do has a partition software .
Where do you have youŕe valuable information in /home ?
General speaking you can install without formating /home
But to be sure always make a backup on a CD or DVD

I just did an upgrade from Fedora Core 3 to Fedora Core 9 and it installed successfully. I've actually gotten rid of the inaccessible Microsoft XP Home Edition by doing this. I can install Adobe Flash Player 10.0.12.36, too. Hooray! Thanks to all of you who have helped me.
