bad block check
I realized that the Fedora (nor RH 3.0) installer have a "bad block check" feature. At least it doesn't ask you if you want to ru check. My installation freezes anywhere round HD format and copying files around glibc. I have a feeling that it tried to access a bad sector and froze. Anyone have any ideas on how to enable block/sector checking during installation?

If you partition with Disk Druid during the install (and not just allow the installer to handle creating the partitions), there's a check box on the partition type / size screens for each partition which checks for bad blocks.

Is this in the "Edit" or "New" Screen? or the screen where they have the list of partitions with "New", "Edit", etc buttons? All the checkbox I see in that screen or its derivatives are "Hide RAID" and "Force to be Primary"...

Oops.
I appear to have made an error. It appears this feature has been removed: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=109442 RedHat 9 definitely did have this feature, though. What I would suggest is that you get a rescue CD (Knoppix or similar) and run e2fsck -c (check the man page first), or 'badblocks' on the affected drive. Dave |
