'Error loading operating system'
I am in need of some expertise from an experienced linux user please. I have been trying to install fedora for a week and after several attempts i get the 'Error loading operating system' at startup. Now XP is hiding somewhere too ?
|
Did you install Lilo or Grub as the boot loader? It is configured wrong or not installed at all. Tell us some more info about your installation procedure
|
I used Grub. I used a 3 CD pack from the Red Hat Linux Bible book ( Fedora and Enterprise Edition) I can get into the linux rescue mode but not sure what to look for ?
|
I am sure there is some way to do it from the rescue...but I do not know it...the only thing I would try is boot to the rescue prompt and run these commands
chroot /mnt/sysimage grub-install /dev/hdx replacing x where you want grub installed and adding a partition number if you don't want it in the MBR I have never gotten grub to work w/ XP so if that didn't work try reinstalled and choosing lilo in the MBR that is how I have it set up right now on this computer. |
got it installed , but only have text. My laptop has a non-std. display. where can i find the config file for the display ?
|
I am not sure what a non-std display is but you can go through the setup program w/
xf86config and you can view the file in /etc/xf86config the command for a GUI is startx or xinit kde replacing kde w/ whatever windowmanager you have |
thank you for your help vdogvictor. I 'm having gui problems now, someday linux and I will truley meet and that will be a glorious day set aside for much celebration and cheer !!!

What are your GUI problems?
