yum "urlerror timeout" in FC6 even when lynx works

hi,
i installed FC6.initially i configured the http_proxy and the https_proxy environment variables in bash.yum and lynx worked fine.even at this time pirut did'nt work.i installed some packages.

then i did Control-C in middle of a yum install by mistake.
yum has'nt worked since.my $proxy variable is configured correctly.lynx works well.I tried setting proxy in yum.conf .But yum gave an error "NonNumeric port error 3128?".i opened the yum.conf in vi and made sure that the port was '3128' not '3128?' .but the error still keeps appearing .
i manually connect to the repos url in lynx and they open fine.but the same thing in yum ...or even a url supplied to 'rpm' fails to open at all.I get:

Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
http://macromedia.mplug.org/rpm/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error nonnumeric port: '3128?'>
Trying other mirror.
http://macromedia.rediris.es/rpm/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error nonnumeric port: '3128?'>
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: flash

I'll be grateful if you could help me out.I am an ubuntu convert .Is the synaptic for fedora as good as it is for ubuntu? Pirut does'nt open for me (for the same reason as above)
