yum segfault troubleshooting

Running Fedora Core 8, kernel 2.6.25.11-60.fc8. This is an old machine with a Celeron 2.4 and 512MB of RAM. Yum is version 3.2.8.

I have been get segfaults from yum from time to time; logs say these all occur in the same python library. A couple of examples:
Code:
kernel: yum-updatesd-he[7171]: segfault at a3dcb0 ip 079bf204 sp bfdcf450 error 6 in libpython2.5.so.1.0[7922000+11b000]
kernel: yum-updatesd-he[16797]: segfault at d ip 079420c9 sp bfab3258 error 4 in libpython2.5.so.1.0[7922000+11b000]
This also happened in an isolated incidents with sed. It's happened both with the yum daemon and running yum from the command line.

I've run Memtest 86 and initially, RAM seems to be operating properly. I attempted to rename the library file (/usr/lib/libpython2.5.so.1.0) and replace it from one extracted from an RPM; this segfaulted almost immediately.

Anyone have suggestions? Hardware? I can't uninstall python-libs without pretty much stripping down 100+ packages and reinstalling.
