can I upgrade from FC3 to FC4 using Yum? (or by the same token using apt-Synaptic..)
If it is possible...how is it done?

Theoretically its possible, but it may not always go smoothly. Download the fedora-release rpm from a Fedora Core 4 mirror, install the and then do "yum upgrade".

Apt is not supported by fedora.us after FC3 (see “APT repository status” at http://www.fedora.us/ ), but you can always build a local repository and use apt that way.

So far, I haven’t found a mirror that has built their own FC4 apt repository, but the “FC4" apt rpm is available at fedora-extras.
