XMMS, Mplayer

OK .. so I understand that XMMS doesn't want to play mp3 files by default. Good. How do I change this? OR .. how do I convert all mp3s to OGG? Also .. what about internet radio .. why won't it play that!? [i.e. digitally imported radio / smooth beats -> don't work.]

MPlayer doesn't seem to be in core/extra, what's a good alternative? Are there any "gotcha"s like with the MP3 support?
