XMMS is very quiet
 

the volume from XMMS in my FC3 is very quiet. if i turn the master up too much then it get distorted. If i put it as high as i can before the sound quality gets dodgy and turn the speakers up its ok, but when i duel boot back to windows for game i almost deafen myself if i forget to turn the speaker volume down.
I'm using a onboard realtek sound card and i didnt install any new driver if that helps

I have another problem. Sound in win XP is so low comparing to Fedora, that it's just silly. Sorry, I'm off no help :)

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I just installed core 3 (I used redhat 8 earlier). I don't know how to fix it, i've tried different types of output plugins in xmms, but no luck...

If in installation your sound card was detected then you dont have any real problem, just run in KDE, kmix and turn sound on :-P Dont try also to play mp3 on fedora and redhat distros because they don't give support for this files.

Look for other posts to view how you can fix this problem.

can this not be done via gnome?

dinkydarko, when you are adjusting your sound turn your master volume all the way up and turn the PCM down some. This is how I usually set it and it usually sounds good to me.

Also, I'm not in front of my fedora box right now, but I bet that kmix will run in gnome if you don't want to totally switch GUIs. To try it open a terminal and type kmix if you really want to use that.
