First, thanks for all of the great posts. I've been having issues trying to get Fedora up and running after running the updates and all of the problems that that creates.
Now I am trying to fix the last where X won't start. I'm trying to reconfigure X, but xf86cfg and it's variants aren't to be found. Am I missing something?
You will want to make sure your video hardware is supported. Fedora doesn't have its own Hardware Compatability List yet but the one for Red Hat should be nearly the same.
I already did that. It was running until I decided to run up2date. That's when the problems began. I got it back running with gui, but the resolution was too low and the screen was unreadable. I tried to change my monitor to the correct one (the display adapter was correct from what I could tell), but I must have selected the wrong monitor. Since then, no gui. That's why I've been looking for the X config. I guess that I could take the advanced route and try editing the config file, but I'm not that comfortable yet. Oh well, what's the worst that could happen? No gui? I already have that. :chuckle:
# XFree86 -configure
# XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new
If you see a blank screen with an X cursor, hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
# cp XF86Config.new /etc/X11/XF86Config
Reboot
Afterwards you can make adjustments from the "Display" gui
Is there a XF86Config file in Fedora Core 2? I only found xorg.conf.
Wanna tried changing the refresh rate to 85 but afraid my MacroVIew monitor would reject. What would happen if the monitor cannot accept a refresh rate of 85Hz? Stuck at the black screen "console"?
